SB24 - Elected state officials, Legislature authorized to recall by general law, const. amend.

Summary/Synopsis: Constitutional Amendment. This bill authorizes the Legislature to provide by general law a procedure for electors to recall an elected official. The qualified electors of the state or any judicial or legislative district may petition the Secretary of State for recall of any elected officer after the first year of that official’s term. Within 90 days of filing, the petition must contain signatures to equal 25% of the voters for that office in the last election. When the Secretary of State has validated the signatures, a special election will be set for the sixth Tuesday. Other candidates may qualify in the usual way for special elections; no primaries will be held. The incumbent or other candidate with the majority vote will be elected to fill the office for the rest of that term.
