Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.” Martin Luther King Jr

The Alabama Educational Television Commission is meeting Tuesday, Nov. 18, to discuss cutting ties with the Public Broadcasting Service, PBS.

Concerned citizens and educators plan to gather at the APT office in Birmingham where the meeting will be held. People plan to meet at 9 a.m. on the public sidewalk at 2112 11th Ave South, in front of the tall red and white sign that includes APT/PBS logos. Individuals are encouraged to bring Save APT/PBS signs and a friend. Sesame Street costumes are optional but welcome!

Background: Alabama would become the first state in the nation to cut ties with PBS. This decision puts Alabama Public Television (APT) at serious risk—an invaluable resource that currently reaches nearly 2 million Alabama households at no cost. For many families already struggling with the rising costs of living and educating their children, APT is the only accessible and affordable source of high-quality educational television. Losing it would create an even deeper divide in access to learning and trusted public information.
