Advocacy 

Our state Advocacy Committee utilizes the LWVUS/LWVAL positions, the LWVAL Areas of Emphasis approved by convention delegates, and additional LWVAL board guidance, to carry out their mission which is to:

Increase advocacy participation and visibility on state issues by LWV members and the public.

Combine timely action for maximum impact with proper consideration of the effort required to effectively advocate for or against policies or legislation

Enlist support from LWV members through calls to action that are issued through multiple tools and methods. Provide position background and talking points for members and Local Leagues on calls to action.

Our Advocacy Mission

Review prefiled/filed bills to analyze potential impacts

Review state ballot initiatives to support positions of support, oppose or remain neutral

Provide recommendations of “support” or “oppose” to the LWVAL board for approval

Review/develop draft legislative language

Conduct post-session review of its analyses and recommendations

Make changes or updates to the current LWVAL Areas of Emphasis

Make recommendations on authorizing a study team to develop a preliminary study plan to be presented to the LWVAL Convention for approval as a statewide study.
