Watch. Search. Act.
Learn How to Use The Alabama Channel’s Public Meeting Records for Civic Action
Montgomery, AL – Watch. Search. Act. is a free, public virtual training designed to help Alabamians better understand what happens inside legislative and state agency meetings—and how to use that information for meaningful civic engagement.
The League of Women Voters of Alabama Education Fund will host the online event on January 8 at 6:30 p.m., featuring Tara Bailey, Director of The Alabama Channel, a public transparency project that records, archives, and makes Alabama government meetings searchable by transcript.
During this session, participants will learn:
Why searchable video records are essential for transparency and public accountability
What legislative and state agency meetings are covered by The Alabama Channel
How to search transcripts, track bills, and quickly find key moments in meetings
How advocates, journalists, community organizations, and everyday citizens use video clips to educate the public, support advocacy efforts, and hold elected officials accountable
“This training is about giving people practical tools to understand how government really works,” said Tara Bailey. “When the public can easily watch, search, and share what happens in government meetings, it strengthens democracy and civic participation.”
The event is designed for advocates, educators, journalists, community leaders, and residents who want to better follow public policy, prepare testimony, support issue-based campaigns, or simply understand how decisions are made at the state level.
