LWVAL Voter Education Event
Powering the Cloud in the Deep South:
Water, Energy and Community Impact
April 21, 20266 pm CT; 7 pm ET
A Collaboration by the League of Women Voters of Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana and Tennessee
For Earth Day 2026, join the Leagues of Women Voters of Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, and Tennessee for our Good Trouble Tuesday virtual educational forum that focuses on the rapid growth of data centers across the Southeastern United States.
This forum explores how these projects are affecting marginalized communities, the environment, and regional infrastructure. Participants will learn about the environmental footprint of data centers, including energy and water use, which can strain local resources and necessitate new utility and pipeline infrastructure. Discussion will also cover community impacts, such as changes in land use, potential effects on air and water quality, and how data center development intersects with local economic and health concerns.
