
The League of Women Voters of Alabama, a nonpartisan political organization, encourages the informed and active participation of citizens in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influences public policy through education and advocacy.
Why Join the League?
The League of Women Voters of Alabama (LWVAL) is a nonpartisan, grassroots nonprofit dedicated to empowering Alabamians to fully participate in our democracy. With nine Local Leagues across Alabama, we engage in advocacy, education, litigation, and organizing to protect every Alabamian's freedom to vote. It is important and satisfying work.
When you join one of the nine Local Leagues in Alabama, you automatically become a member of League of Women Voters of Alabama (LWVAL) and the League of Women Voters of the United States.
You will have the knowledge that you are adding your voice to a powerful force of members from all 50 states, Washington DC, the Virgin Islands, and Hong Kong – who are advocating for voting rights, access to the ballot and other causes you care about.
As you meet others in League who share your interests, you will make professional contacts and develop lasting friendships with like-minded Alabamians who believe in ballot access, government transparency and civic engagement.

Become a Member of The League
How do I join the League?
First - check and see if you live near one of the local leagues located across the state of Alabama.
The map to the right and the chart below shows Alabama’s eight Local Leagues and one League-at-Large along with the counties each represents.
When you click the JOIN button for a League, you will be taken to a unique portal that allows you to join this particular Local League.
If there is no Local League near you, you can choose to join the State League as a ‘Member at Large’ by clicking the ‘JOIN THE STATE’ button below.
