Sponsor: Representative C. Newton

Summary/Synopsis: This bill provides that for a write-in ballot to be counted, the candidate must have registered with the secretary of state and must be in compliance with the Fair Elections Practices Act and the State Ethics Act.
League Action and Justification: LWVAL supports HB404. While this would limit who could be a write-in candidate, it is appropriate that such candidates should be required to be in compliance with the laws relating to other candidates.
